John Bailey was charged with breaking a window-pane, value 305., in the Royal Oak HofceU Ifc appeared from the evidence of the hotel proprietor that accused had broken the window by throwing a stone at it, and had then run away. He was pursued, caught, and given into custody. The accused admitted the offence, but said he was drunk at the time. He was fined 10s., and ordered to pay the amount of damage done. MAINTENANCE. George Chapman was charged with neglecting to contribute towards the support of his children. Inspector Aitcheson said the case was a very bad one, as defendant, who was an able-bodied man, had entirely neglected his three children, who had been walking the streets in a wretched condition until the police sent them to some person who took charge of them. He would point out that his Worship was empowered not only to make a maintenance order for the payment of so much per week, but could sentence accused to six months impnNament. The accused said he had been of employment for a long time, but he was in work now, and wjis willing to support his children. On the application of the police prisoner was remanded for a week. THEFT FROM A WAGGON. Walter Okeuden was charged, on remand, with having on the 20th February, at Pakuratahi, stolen two cases containing merchandise, the property of the Hon. G. M. Waterhouse, M.L 0 George Moore, a barman at the Golden Fleece Hotel, Pukurataki, stated that he remembered the accused calling at the hotel and stating that ha had found a case, but on his being asked what it contained he said that was for the owner to prove. Louis Thompson, a carrier, residing at Greytown, gave evidence to the effect that the accused had offered to sell him some chains. At the close of the case for the prosecution the accused was remanded until Tuesday next. BREACH Of MUNICIPAL BY-LAWS. Richard Bnlliman was summoned for leaving hb) horse and cart unattended in a public place. The case was dismissed. ASSAULT WITH INTENT. Frederick Catling was brought up, on remand, charged with assault with intent to commit rape, and was, at his own request, remanded for a week. ROBBERY AT PDKURATAHI. Patrick Shina, Thomas Maher, Meluish L. De la Taste, and Howard W. Mackinder were jointly charged with having on the 18th inst., at Pukuratahi, stolen from the dwelling-house of Robert Elliott money to the value of £4. Prisoners were remanded until Monday next for the production of evidence. PITT V. CARVER. This was an application to enforce payment of certain arrears ordered to be paid for the maintenance of defendant’s illegitimate child. Defendant it appeared had paid £3O in full of all demands, and the case was dismissed. Mr. Chapman apnearsd for the plaintiff, and Mr. Gordon Allan for the defendant. CIVIL CASES. Dr. Doyle v. F. Bench.—This was a claim for £5 ss. for services rendered. Defendant was ordered to pay the amount by instalments of £1 a week. S. S. Griffiths v. H. Rowlands.—Claim of £1 19s. lOd. In this case an order was made for the payment of the amount by instalments. In the following cases judgment were given for the plaintiffs for amounts, with costs:— Robertson Bros. v. J, C. Brooke, £2l 55.; Mabey and Perkins v. -X. Morris, £4l Is. 4d.; J. Gear v. D. Egan, £1 Ss.
