TELEGRAPHIC NEWS.
(PER PRESS AGENCY.) Auckland, Tuesday. The police have received a telegram stating that Charles Hamilton, who is charged with fraudulent insolvency, has been arrested at Wanganui. Christchurch, Tuesday. Royse, Stead, and Co., tlie grain merchants, have erected a private telegraph line from their city offices to their stores at Heathcote Valley, a distance of six miles. The Canterbury Rowing Club crew left for Wanganui to-day. They were out for a long row last night. They did good work, and promise to give a good account of themselves. Dunedin, Tuesday. The Government have resolved to invito tenders for the construction of a hundred railway 'wagons similar to those already in use in the colony. The telephone experiment between Moagiel and Dunedin to-day was successful for a distance of fourteen miles. Mr. Logan, the telegraph inspector, sang several songs at the Mosgiel end, and every word reached the Dunedin end distinctly. The telephone instruments are merely line wire.
