WELLINGTON TEACHERS’ ASSOCIATION.

The annual meeting of the above association was held on Saturday last, in the Thorudon! school, at 11 o’clock a.m., Mr. W. H. Holmes in the chair. After the usual pfelimi-i nary business, the meeting proceeded to elect the officers for the ensuing year. The follow-' ing gentlemen were elected ; —President, Mr. Mowbray ; treasurer, Mr. Holmes ; general secretary, Mr.- Young ; and corresponding! secretary with the Australian colonies, Mr. Doherty. It was resolved that the standing committee be re-appoiuted, to consist ol the office-bearers of the association, together with Messrs. Lewis and Gordon. A resolution was passed unanimously affirming the desirability of presenting an. address and testimonial to Mr. C. C. Graham, the late secretary of the Board. It was decided that subscriptions for this purpose should be accepted from teachers only,and thatall theteachersthroughouttheold district of Wellington should be asked to contribute. The following resolutions relating to the interests of the profession were also passed : 1. That a respectful memorial be forwarded to the Board to the effect that this meeting suggests the justice aud sound policy of stringently adhering to the principle of promoting and classifying teachers on the bases of length of service and literary and professional ability. (The preparation of this memorial was, by consent of the association, left in the bauds of the standing committee. The feeling of the meeting ou this subject was unanimous and unraistakeable.) 2. That this meeting regrets the action of the Board in going outside of the teaching profession for departmental officers. 3. That the subscription for membership be ss. per annum, instead of 10s. as heretofore. We understand there were several other notices of motion ou the paper, but they were allowed to stand over until the next monthly meeting.
