PRINCESS THEATRE
There was a very good house at the Princess Theatre last evening, to witness the second appearance of Mr. Dillon’s company, in the “ Queen’s Diamonds, or a Race for Life and Honor.” As on the previous evening, the audience were delighted with the manner in which the piece was mounted, and the very first-rate performance of everyone concerned. Mr. Dillon, as D’Artaguau, acted in his usual able style, and forcibly reminded one of the olden days at the old Lyceum Theatre in London, where his father in his palmy days played the part of D’Artagnan in “ The Three Musketeers.” Mias Pender, as Ann of Austria, acted the part with grace and ability. The rest of the company ably supported the leading actors, and deserve great praise for their careful rendering of the parts allotted to them. .We noticed Mr. St. Lawrence, late of the Theatre- Royal Company, took the part of Louis the Thirteenth last evening, and although he took it at a moment’s notice he enacted it with his usual care and ability. Mr. St, Lawrence is a great acquisition to the Princess Company. The drama was again followed by the extravaganza “ The Irishman’s Fortunes,” Miss Daley and Mr. O’Neill acquitting themselves admirably, their songs being repeatedly encored. Mr. Huntley deserves a word for his very pretty scenery, the water scene and balloon scene being truly excellent, in fact far better than anything of the kind we have previously seen in Wellington. We cannot conclude without giving a tribute of praise to the management for the manner in which they have opened their theatre, and can only, say if they continue to produce plays iu the same manner in which they have com raenced they deserve a very large share of the public patronage.-
