(PER PRESS AGENCY.) Auckland, Sunday. Bishop Cowie has accepted the appointment of Honorary Chaplain to the Auckland Artillery Volunteers. Chaplain Rodder has been appointed manager of the new Auckland Steamship Company. The railway employes held a picnic to-day, and thirty-four carriages left with a band for Pokeno. The sports were very successful. Gbahamstown, Saturday. Dr. Somerville commenced his Evangelistic services here yesterday. Another service today is just over. Levy met with great success last night. Stephen Hassetl is also here giving entertainments, and Clifford’s Mirror of the World opens next week. New Plymouth, Sunday. At a public meeting held yesterday re the reception of Sir George Grey there was a large attendance. A committee was appointed to arrange matters. Tauranga, Saturday. The certificate of George Alexander Armstrong, roaster of the schooner Nellie, has been suspended for one mouth, at the judicial inquiry into the wreck, held before Messrs. Edgecombe and Scannell, J.P.’s, and Captain Joseph Ellis, Nautical Assessor. Havelock, Sunday. The salmon brought over from Wellington were successfully liberated in Pelorus River, half a miles above- the junction of the Wakamarina, and three miles above the tide. Through the careful attention of Mr. Whitehorn no fish died on the journey. Christchurch, Saturday. The Lyttelton Harbor Board have instructed the Engineer to prepare plans and specifications for a graving dock. A letter appears in the Times to-day from Mr. Webb, Chairman of the Match. Committee of the Otago Cricket Association, denying the charge that obstacles had been raised by the Otago cricketers to the annual match with Canterbury, and asserting that the Otago Association had been most anxious to arrange the match at such date as should be most convenient to the Canterbury players. Dunedin, Sunday. Bishop Neville is said to be the purchaser of the Milton Pottery. During the week upwards of 100 applicants for admission to the Normal School were refused, the school being already overstocked.
