WESLEYAN CONFERENCE.
(Morning Session, January 23). The President took the chair at 10.30 a.m. Prayers were oSered by the Revs. J. B. Richardson and J. Armitage. The roll having been read by the SECRETARY, the report of the committee on district meeting recommendations was brought up and read by the Rev. D. McNicoll. On the motion of the Rev. W. Morley, the consideration of the recommendations was ordered to stand over till the sittings of the mixed Conference. On the motion of the Rev. W. Mobley, seconded by the Rev. R. Bavin, R was resolved the board of examiners consist of eight members, of which number four to devote their attention to the preparation of examination papers for the probationers, two for the students, and two for candidates for the ministry. ■ It was resolved, on the motion of the Rev. J. Berry, seconded by the Rev. H. Bull, that the name of text-books be inserted in the printed minutes in connection with the probationers’ curriculum; anl that the Rev. J. 0. Symons’ new work be adopted as the textbook on the history and polity of the Methodist Church. The following resolution, proposed by the Rev. B. Bavin, was agreed to : —That it be an instruction to the board of examiners that the sub-committee having charge of the probationers’ papers shall allot the papers to the examiners according. to the subjects in the curriculum, eno examiner taking tho same subjects throughout the several years of the probationers ; also, that a written report shall be required from each of the three sub-com-mittees of the hoard on the several papers committed to their care, to be ready for the first day of the Conference. ‘ The afternoon session commenced at 2.30, praver being offered by the Rev. J. Berry. The representative of the Wellington District preferred a request on behalf of Mr. Mr. Berry that, on the ground of ill health, he be made a supernumerary for the next year. On the motion of the Rev. J. B. Bichardson, seconded by the Rev. H. Bull, it was agreed that Mr. Berry’s wish be complied with. The third draft of the station sheet, brought up from the Stationing Committee by the secretary, was read and discussed, and on the motion of the Rev. W. Morlet referred back to the committee for emendations, the final reading to take place on Saturday morning. A communication was read by the Rev. A. Reid from Rereama, Maori chief of the Wairau. urging the , re-appointment of Heteraki Warihi as Maori minister of the Wellington District. After some discussion, in which the Revs. Messrs. Buddie, Reid, and Hammond took part, it was agreed that the request of Rereama be agreed to. It was resolved that the Stationing Committee meet at 9 o’clock on Friday morning, and that the sessions of Thursday and Friday be devoted to the transaction of business iu which the laymen will take part. The President pronounced the benediction at 4.30.
