THE RANGITIKEI BAR. The following letter from the pilot at Rangitikci to the Secretary of Customs has been forwarded to us for publication for general information;— Rangitikei, January 17, 1878. Sm.-I regret to Inform you that the Rangitikei bar is almost e •sed up with the heavy westerly weather of late. There is a sandspit formed across the mouth of the river, dry at half tide, thereby causing the channel to run along the beach in the breakers to the southward, and very narrow and shallow. I have communicated by telegram with the master of the Jane I'onglns, to Foxton, of the state « f the bar. Th**re w-s a steamer here yesterday, X think the Clyde. [ could not allow her to come in owing to the state of the bar. Hoping soon to hfive a fresh down the river, whic ■ would clear the channel in a very short time,—l have, &c., Pmur Jknkkns, Pilot, Rangitikei. Tho Secretary of Customs, Wellington.
