WESLEYAN CONFERENCE.

(Morning Session, January 19.) The Conference, assembled at 10 o’clock. Prayer was offered by the Rev. J. S. Eishworth. The Rev. J. H. Simmonds (Manawatu) took his seat in the Conference. The record of Friday’s proceedings was read by the Secretary. The Rev. H. Bull gave notice of motion that the collection of connectional funds be made each quarter in every circuit, and not left till the end of the financial year. 1 The report of the committee on the supernumerary question was brought up by the Rev, J. B. Richardson. The committee recommended that the Rev. G. S. Harper, who has been laid aside from the discharge of active

ministerial duties for some mouths, be allowed to become asupenunnerary for one year. 'On the motion of Mr. Richardson, seconded by the Rev. IL.Bp.bt. the .recommendation of -the committee was adopted. A resolution of sympathy with Hr. Harper in his bodily affliction, passed by the Nelson District Meeting, was read to the Conference by the representative of the Nelson District. “ What candidates are recommended to be received on trial for the Ministry?” There were four candidates presented to the Conference by the respective district representatives Messrs. W. D. Salter and F. W. Martin (Auckland), John Dellow (Wellington), Peter Wills (Canterbury). Mr. Joseph Gray, recommended by the Otago District Meeting, had not reached Wellington. Each of the four candidates underwent a lengthy and close theological examination, conducted by the President. The results of the literary papers were presented by the Rev. R. Bavin, and the trial sermons committees’ reports _by the respective conveners. After a full discussion, it was agreed that the four candidates _be received, 0 subject to a medical examination, their collegiate status to be determined at a subsequent stage of the Conference. There’ was no afternoon session, and the proceedings were closed by the President pronouncing the benediction.
