WALLACE V. CRAWFORD.
TO THE EDITOR OF THE NEW ZEALAND TIMES. Sir, —With reference to my personal application in the Supreme Court in re Wallace v. Crawford, I had no opportunity of seeing my solicitors, Messrs. Buller and Lewis, who so successfully and satisfactorily conducted my case. My reason for making the personal application before the Court commenced business was that I should not be debarred from appealing to the’ Court in reference to the payment of costs. My solicitors not being at hand to consult, I applied personally to be heard, and upon both private and public grounds I considered I was fully justified in appearing before the Court, in order that I might be satisfied upon what principle I was to be called upon to pay my own costs in an action which I could not bring in the Resident Magistrate’s Court, and which had been certified to by the Chief Justice as a proper action to be tried in the Supreme Court. I write this letter to remove an impression that, because I made a personal application, I was in any way dissatisfied with my solicitors, Messrs. Buller and Lewis, or with my able advocate, Mr. Barton. Your insertion of this explanatory letter in your valuable columns will oblige.—l am, &c., ■ ■ J. H. Wallace. January 15, 1878.
