Arrived ; Wanaka and Taranaki. The Wanaka sails for Russell this evening. The Taranaki sails South to-morrow afternoon at 4. The schooner Nellie, of Auckland, bound from Poit Cooper, ran on the Astrolabe Reef in a smooth sea. All hands were saved The cargo consisted of hread'Stuffs. The wreck lies on the eastward shore of Moliti Island. All valuables were saved. The master sustained a fracture of the ribs. The Nellie belongs to Mr. G. W. Owen, is CO tons register, and was built at Mahurangi in 1876 by Mr, John Darrach. She was second in the schooner race at the regatta last year, and third on the Ist instant in the champion race at the Lyttelton regatta. The Nellie was insured for £IOOO in the New Zealand office, and was bound Irom Lyttelton to this port. The following is a list of her cargo:—loo sacks oats, 50 sacks malt, 200 sacks (200) flour, 100 bags (100) do, 53 do (50) do, 13 cases hams and bacon. PORT CHALMERS, Monday. Arrived : Dallam Tower, from London, with 2000 tons cargo, 8 tons powder, and 44 passengers. She left London on 20th October. Passed a chain of icebergs to N.E. in latitude 48 S., longitude 34.30 E., on IBth December The chain of icebergs was seven miles in length. On reaching the Heads on the 12th Inst., encountered a terrific S.W, gale, and anchored outside. She was towed up atllp.m on the 13th. The passage occupied 79 days from land to land, and 84 days from port to port. Sailed: Ea-;by. Passengers for Wellington : Misses Byers and Strongleham, Mr. Alexander.— Hawea, for the North. For Nelson: Mr. Hyland. For Taranaki: Mr. Nicholson. For Auckland; Messrs. Smith and Morrison. WEATHER INDICATIONS, At 9 a.m. Yesterday. Wind between north-west and west and south in both islands. Barome'Eß. —Rise considerably in places south of Lyttelton within next twelve hours, but fall in other districts. Sea generally moderate on coast. Warnings have been issued for southerly gales. Strong southerly gales and rising b-rometer were experienced at places south of Napier at a late hour on Saturday, and the glass continued rising up to 5 p.rn. on Sunday ; from that hour it fell fast, and at 3 p.ra. yesterday was quite five-tenths lower, and BliU wi h downward movement. The weather is still unsettled. The s.s. Tui reached port at midnight on Sunday from Foxton, having left there at 1 p.m. the same day. She brought a full cargo of wool, tallow, &c. She sailed for Kaikoura and Lyttelton shortly after 6 o'clock last evening. The schooner Spec sailed for Pelorus Sound on Sunday afternoon. As we anticipated yesterday, thebarquentinc Prince Alfred, bound from Lyttelton to Kaipara, which put into Worscr Bay on Sunday, had to do so to repair sails. A telegram received by Captain Holliday from the Heads was to that effect. The Prince Alfred will probably get away to-day. The departures of the Stormbird for Wanganui and Jane Douglas for Foxton have been postponed till to-day. The Manawatu from Wanganui and Wallace from Nelson are expected in port this morning. A« the Ringarooma, from Melbourne. Is to call at Milford Sound and remain there two dnys/she may not be expected to arrive there before Saturday next. The whaling brigantine Isabella has sent down her yards and topmasts so as to lighten her for the purpose of going up on Coffey and Dixon's Slip, where she will receive a thorough overhaul. The Arawata. with the outward Suez mail, sailed for Melbourne, via the'South, at 2.30 p.m. yesterday. The Napier arrived in port last night at 9 o'clock. She left Blenheim at 12.30 p.ra.. and had heavy north-west gale across. She will leave for Blenheim to-night. The schooner Saucy Lass, with a cargo of wool and tallow, arrived in port yesterday morning. She left Wanganui on Saturday afternoon ; carried northerly winds to Mana, whore a strong southerly was met with, lasting till yesterday morning ; thence strong northerly till arrival. The s.s. Kiwi, for Castlepoint and Napier, sailed lost evening. The s.s. Arawata, with the outward Suez mail, Bailed for Melbourne, via the South, at 2.30 p.m. yesterday. The ship Hurunnl hauled off from the wharf yesterday for the purpose of going round to the Patent Slip, but as there was a strong gale blowing, she was unable to do no. She will go round as soon as the weather moderates.
