BY TELEGRAPH. Dunedin, Monday. The match Otago Twenty-two v. Australian Eleven was resumed to-day at noon. The weather during the earlier part of the day was bleak, aud towards the close vary wet, Spofforth and Murdoch went to the wickets, and resumed their interrupted play. The telegraph for the previous day showed 53, •of which the two players scored seven each, the bowlers were Millington and Austin The first ball from Millington to Murdoch was caught at point by Garg 11. 47 —53. Spofforth made a desperate attempt from his shoulders, and got out of his ground, and was smartly stamped by Spring, after making 13 carefully. s— l 3 go. Blackham came next, and with his first ball he hit to leg for 2, which he fluked. Gregory gave Mo ire a chance, which was muffed,°and Gregory added one to the score, aud the next ball from Millington added one more. Gregory snicked Austin for 1, and Blackham 1 for 2. Gregory then drove Millington for an easy 2. Blackham got a drive off Austin, which gave him one, owing.to Moore muffing the ball Gregory got a drive to fence, and made 5 amidst loud applause, the telegraph showing 70. Moore took up the bowling at Austin’s end and got a maiden. Millington’s first ball to Blackham lifted to point, and Cargill there received him—6—s—76. Garrett followed. The runs from Moore’s bowling came slow, the balls being too well pitched to take liberties with. He got several maidens close upon each other. After several singles, 80 was telegraphed. Garrett gave a skyer off Millington and succumbed, Haskell being in the way. 7—2 the vacant place, and after three or four ones scored, Boyle was clean stumped by Moore, the first man stumped by the Otago team. 7—1—83. Bailey supplied the vacancy. After several overs with little success, Bailey drove one to fence for 2, and 90 appeared on the telegraph. Glen took the bowling from Millington, and his third ball to Bailey was tipped into Spring’s hands behind the wicket. 9—6—92. Kendall, the last man, then succeeded. In Glen’s first over and third ball, his mid-wicket was knocked out of the ground. Total score of visitors, 92. After luncheon the Dunedin men took the field, being in high spirits, and in certain hope of claiming first victory. Niyen went first to the wickets. Cargill filled the vacancy, and a leg by Ewes immediately stolen by Cargill broke the egg, with one past point of Garrett, aud followed with another to mid-on off Spofforth. Cargill played carefully throughout. Douglas made his first off Spofforth to mid-on ; Cargill followed with a pretty bat for two off Spofforth’s last ball. In the over Douglas made a single. Several balls were given without result, when Cargill’s timbers were scattered by Garrett. 2—4 —B. Paramor then handled the willow. Douglas, after making a show off a stand block, received a trimmer from Garrett, and the score stood —93—2. McNeill, the top scorer of Saturday, took Douglas’ place amidst applause. Paramor got away a hall for 2 off Spofforth’s aud another to long-field for 2, but with the next ball he was given over Ibw. 13—4—4. Dixon filled Paramor’s place. McNeill took his first from Spofforth for a duck’s egg. 15—5—0. McFarlaue stood to the bowling of Spofforth, and nearly gave slip a chance. His third ball he drove for one, and followed with another off Garrett. After a maiden for Spofforth, McNeil drove on the chain, and scored three amidst great applause. McParlane stole one off Spofforth, and in attempting a third for a splendid hit was run out, much to the chagrin of the Dunediuites. 21—6—4. The last ball of Garrett's next sent McParlane home Ibw. Seven wickets gone for 21 runs. Captain Spring then went to alter, if possible, the gloomy look of things. Nicbolls* centre stump fell to Garrett. 8 for 28. Spring soon after retired after adding only two to his score, Garrett scattering the timbers. 9 for 29. Pulton filled the vacancy, but several balls came from each end without any result, when Pnlton was caught by Blackham on his wickets. Claike opened with a drive for 2, and Rose picked the following ball for 1, and skied the next for anothar single. Clarke followed with a “ daisy-cutter” for 1 off Spofforth. Rose shortly after made a nice drive for 1, but a couple of balls after Garrett sent him home. A shower of rain stopped the proceedings. After 40 minutes delay play was resumed. Rhodes took Rose’s place, and Clarke and Rhodes quickly added to the score for a time, hitting balls as they liked. Clarke was the first to make two figures, and Rhodes followed suit, and the score soon ran up to 60. After making 14, Rhodes was put an end to by Boyle, who caught him at slip off Garrett. 12—14—62. Morrison followed, and the first ball from Boyle settled Clarke. 13 —15—62. Austin succeeded, and Boyle, in the first ball to Morrison, took the stumps. 14—0—63. Haskell came next, and played well for a good mauy overs, but Austin was not allowed to do much, being given out Ibw after scoring 1. 15—1—63. Sutcliffe was bowled by Garrett for a duck-egg. Millington followed, and got 4 together, when he retired to one from Garrett. 17 —4—77. Fawcett succeeded, and after a few more balls Haskell retired for a well played 10 Thelegrapb—18—10—81. Glen was the next man,, and after three overs, in which he scored as many runs, his mid wicket f ell. 19—3—84. Moore came next, aud then Fawcett broke the egg off Spofforth, and snicked Garrett for 3, Moore drove Spofforth for one, and 90 was put up. Fawcett got two singles, and then Spofforth knocked over Moore’s stumps. 20 —1—93. The last man was Everest, but after one, he tripped half-way home, and his stumps were scattered. Total score, 94.
