The Wellington Regatta, this year promises to bo a great success. ' Several, of the leading merchants and other‘residents have taken the matter up with an evident intention of seeing it carried through properly, and the-response -which jhas been made to’’the appeal for subscriptions has been already very liberal. There is not a great deal of time to spare between this arid, the Regatta day (22nd . inst.) to arrange the various details, .bat. the committee are working with a will,' arid - the indefatigable secretary, Mr. Ellaby, is also hard at work. The patronage of his Excellency the Governor has been secured, arid if all the owriers of suitable vessels enter them for the seyeral events, as wo presume : they will, a fine, day will be the only thing wanting to make th.e Wellington Regatta, of January, 1878, a memorable ono. There, .are probably few places in the world more suitable for a regatta than the capital of New Zealand, and it is gratifying to find that the inhabitants, who are naturally proud of their fine city .and magnificent; harbor, are so generally anxious to contribute to the success of the annual; regatta. Where there is so much unanimity in the matter there cannot be a doubt as to the result of the undertaking.
