' (per arawata at the bluer) The Merchant Shipping and Underwriters’ Association report the Assyrian, from the Lacepede Islands to the United Kingdom, as having put Into Algoa Bay In distress. The Haddington, from Melbourne to London, came into collision with the Falcon ; the former was towed into port slightly injured. Arrived at London—Chimborazo, from Adelaide; Primera, from Wellington ; Spirit of the Dawn, from Auckland. The Ann Armitage, which left the Lacepede Islands on Ist October for the United Kingdom for orders, sprang a leak and put into Capo Town. Th* Portia, from Adelaide, put into Rio Janiero in distress on the 6th September, and sailed again for London early in December. WEATHER INDICATIONS, Yesterday, 9 a.m. Wind.—Between north-west and west and south at places north of Napier, and between west and south and south-east at other places. Barometer.—Rise south of Wanganuifall in the north! Sea.—Heavy at Greymouth and Hokitika ; much sea at Wanganui. Warnings have been repeated to all stations. During the last 24 hours the glass has generally risen, except on a portion of the eastern coast. There was a heavy sea on the west coast of the Middle Island for some hours yesterday. Strong gales are expected. The time-ball may be used to-day for rating chronometers. A chronometer true on Greenwich time would show 12h. SOmin. when the ball drops. Any difference is error, plus or minus, of the chronometer. The s.s. Ladybird sailed at 6 o’clock last evening for the South. The s.s. Wauaka, from the South, arrived in port at 10.30 a.m. yesterday. She left Port Chalmers at 2 p.m. on the 7th, and arrived at Lyttelton at 8 a.m. next day ; sailed again at 3 p.m., and arrived here as above stated. Encountered strong head winds from Lyttelton. She will leave at noon to-day for Auckland, via the East Coast. The Wellington, from the North, is expected to arrive here to-morrow. The Arawata, which arrived at the Bluff from Melbourne with the Suez mail on board, will be here on Saturday morning. She will leave same afternoon for Nelson. The steamers Stormbird and Jane Douglas arrived in port from Wanganui yesterday morning. The Easby, after discharging a quantity of general cargo from Sydney and 500 tons coals from Newcastle. sailed at 5.30 p.m. for South. The mission vessel Southern Cross sailed for Auckland, where she will remain for some time, and then most probably go for a cruise amongst the South Sea Islands. The schooners Spec and Colleen Bawn, wool laden, came into port yesterday morning from Wanganui. The schooner Ruby returned to port from Te Kopo yesterday morning, having picked up the anchor and chain which she lost oh her last visit there. Owing to the bad state of the weather she was unable to hold any communication with the shore.
