WEATHER INDICATIONS, Yesterday, 9 a.m. Wind. —Between north-west and west and south in both islands. Barometer.— Rise at places south of Hokitika ; soon fall at other places during next five hours, then rise. Sea.— Likely heavy at Greymouth and Hokitika ; considerable sea at Wellington Heads. ■Warnings for southerly gales have been sent to places South of Napier. The barometer fell very fast in the South during the last 24 hours, and this movement has been generally felt throughout the colony, though in less degree. The glass had risen to the southward of Lyttelton by 9 this morning. Telegrams were sent on Wednesday giving intimation of the approaching fall. At 2 p.m. yesterday there was a strong S.W. wind blowing at Lyttelton, and at 5 o’clock it reached this port. The time-ball may be used to-day for rating chronometers. A chronometer true on Greenwich time would show 12h. 30min. when the ball drops. Any difference is error, plus or minus, of the chronometer. The Napier left Blenheim at 5 o’clock last- evening, and arrived here at midnight. She sails for Blenheim to-day. The ship Wairoa is expected to finish loading today for London. She has received very quick despatch ; in fact, the wool, &c., has poured into her so fist that the stevedores have found the greatest difficulty in stowing it away. The barque Crownthorpe sailed for Napier yesterday morning, but as the wind increased to a gale shortly after she left, she anchored in Worser Bay. She will load at Napier for London. All was ready on board the Zealandia yesterday morning to leave for London. The wind was fair, but as the day progressed It increased to a fierce gale, and as it was impossible to get the ship under way in such weather, it was decided to postpone her departure till it moderated. The p.s. Manawatu arrived in port from Wanganui at 9.45 a.m. yesterday, with a full cargo of wool and » fair complement of passengers. She left Wanganui at 7.30 p.m. the previous day with the ketch Clematis in tow, and experienced northerly wind down. The Manawatu will sail for Wanganui to-day. The s.s. Jane Douglas crossed the Foxton bar at 8.30 p.m. on Wednesday last, and arrived here at G o’clock yesterday morning. She will leave for Foxton to-day, The cchoon-r Herald, wool laden from the East Coast, arrived in port last night. The following shipping intelligence was received from Lloyds' Melbourne Agency yesterday:—Arrived: Allumbagh, from Melbourne. Sailed; Cutty Sack, for Sydney, which put into port after collision ; Chile, for Auckland, which came into collision with the Osprey, and put pack for repairs ; Celestial Queen, for Nelson, which put into Portland to repair damages received in collision with the Wansbeck. The brig Johanna Rudolph, bound from Manilla to Sydney, has been burnt at the Philliplnes. The ketch Clematis.arrived in port at 2 p.m. yesterday from Wanganui with a full cargo of wool, tal ow, and skins. She left Wanganui at 9 o’clock on Wednesday evening, and for the first two hours experienced light weather. Thence met with a northerly breeze, which took her to the Heads at 9 o’clock yesterday morning. From there she had to beat in against a moat severe head gale, and it was only by her very excellent weatherly qualities that the port was gained at the hour above stated. When coming up the entrance the wind blew with terrific force, taxing the ketch’s canvas to the utmost, which, however, suffered-but slightly. The Clematis made the passage down in IS hours, and 12 hours to the Heads, while the round trip from here to Peiorus Sound, thence to Wanganui and down here, has been done in remarkably short time. Owing to the large quantities of wool pouring into this port for the New Zealand Shipping Company they have been forced to put the Mataura on the berth here for London, instead of sending her on to Lyttelton. Already she has a large quantity of cargo on board, and several hundred bales are now in port waiting to be shipped into her. She will be the next vessel to follow the Wairoa, The 5 5. Taupo, from the South, will arrive here today. She will go to Auckland, via the East Coast, tomorrow. The departure of the Wellington for the North has been postponed till to-day.
