For Lyttelton: Mr. Friedlander, Mrs. Roberts, Miss Sharland. For Dunedin ; Mr. Rowen. The time-ball may tensed to-day for rating chronometers. A chronometer true on Greenwich time would show 12h. SOmin. when the ball drops. Any difference is error, plus or minus, of the chronometer. The Otago Daily Times says : —** Mr. Newman, the oldest purser In the Union Company's employ, and who has just severed his connection with the company, has been presented with a handsome gold albert chain and pendant, the latter bearing the following inscription: —‘To W. L. Newman, from the captain and brother officers. s.s. A new steamer named the Oreti was launched at Dunedin on the 22nd nit, intended for the Bluff and Invercargill trade. She has a very light draught of water, and her dimensions are as follows:—Length over all, 140 ft; beam. 18ft 6in ; depth of hold, Bft 7in, which will give her a draught of water when loaded of 7ft Gin at, and Cfb forward. The rig is that of a three-masted schooner, and she will register about 170 tons. Bhe has been fitted with the Matan’s engines. The steamer has been built by Messrs. Kincaird and McQueen to the order of Messrs. Houghton and Co. The s.s Tui arrived in port from Foxton at 5.30 a, in. on the Ist, having left there the previous day at 8 p.m. She sailed South at 6 o’clock last evening The ship Zealandia hauled away from the wharf yesterday and went down to the outer anchorage. She is expected to sail for London to day. Tlfes.s Kennedy arrived in port at 5.39 a.m. on the Ist, after a twelve hours' passage. She sailed for Nelson and West Coast ports at S o'clock last evening. The schooner Aurora and ketch Unity, from the East Coast, wool laden, arrived in harbor on the morning of the 1 tinst. The cutter Hero, from Pelorus Sound, arrived here yesterday morning, she left there on Friday last, and carried Sight southerly winds across. The Cynthia, from the Sound, arrived hero on the Ist Inst. The steamer Grafton left LytttePon at 7 p rn, on. Monday, and arrived here at 4.30 p.m. next day. She left for West Coast ports yesterday at I.SO p.m. The steamer Wellington arrived in port at 7 o’clock yesterday morning. She will go North t >-day. The s.s. Kiwi, from Napier, Castlepoint, and Pourere. with a quantity of wool on board, arrived here yest rdav at XI a.ra. She went round to the Patent Slip in the afternoon to be cleaned and repainted. The S mthern Cross, after having been recaulked and recoppered, came off to the Patent Slip on Monday last The Prime***, we are informed by Captain Rose of the Nov/ Zealand Shipping Co., arrived in London prior to rite 20th December.
