INTERPROVINCIAL CRICKET MATCH.
Auckland, Monday. Play began punctually at 11 a.m., Lynch and Robinson taking up the bowling against the not-outs, Fowler and Morrison. Fowler hit Lynch for 3 almost the first ball, and as this was followed up by several more runs being obtained in the first two overs, things looked fishy for Auckland. A gleam of sunshine was afforded by Morrison being bowled by Lynch, after adding 2to the previous score. Fowler was well caught by Yates at mid-off. Milton followed him ; but the four remaining wickets were soon disposed of. Milton was caught by Rees for 5, W. Frith was splendidly run out for 4, and as both Perry and C. Frith failed to score, the innings closed at 12.15 for 163, leaving Auckland 122 to got to win. Without delay, Colson and Robinson appeared at the wickets, and Auckland’s second innings began. The betting was level—Canterbury for choice. Things began bad by Robinson incautiously lifting his foot to Ashby’s second ball, and Fowler was down on him like a flash—l for nothing. Colson fared little better, being clean bowled by a yorker from Fritb in the next over. Yates came in, but was bowled by Ashby after making a single : 3 wickets for 3 runs. Rees joined Lynch, but more misfortunes were to come. Frith would not be denied, and the rattle behind Lynch soon denoted the departure of another of Auckland’s best men—4 for 3. Dufaur joined Rees, but the Auckland batnng seemed quite stupkup. Dufaur hesitated, and, as usual, the hesitatiau proved fatal —5 for 7. Gleeaon was cheered on joining Rees, but was bowled by Ashby after making a single. Mumford, the next man, started for one, which was fumbled at mid-on, but Rees would not leave, and Mumford had gone too far to get back—7 for 11. Grierson came in, but very few runs came. The chain of destruction was continued by Rees being bowled by Ashby, after making two singles in half-an-hour. Buokland filled his place, but was only in a few minutes when Grierson was overcome by a shooter from Frith. Cotton was the eleventh man, and a shout of combined cheers and derisive laughter greeted the fall of Bnckland’s wicket from a shooter of Ashby’s. The whole eleven were out for 13 runs, 5 only of which were made off the bat. The innings lasted about thirty-eight minutes. Canterbury wins by 108 runs. CHRISTCHURCH -SECOND INNINGS.
