THE HONORARIUM.
TO THE EDITOIt OF THE NEW ZEALAND TIMES. I am surprised to see that the Government have made provision on the Supplementary Estimates for an increase to tlie honorarium of members, in consequence of, as it is said, “ the length of the session. cannot understand why they should be paid more for what is caused by their own action. Now, I could understand a bonus being voted for the over-worked Parliamentary reporters, clerks, and messengers, who I consider are far more entitled to an increase of pay than the gentlemen who, it seems to me, take a delight in talking, and that to such an extent as to increase very much the work of the above-mentioned officials. I was very glad to see the letter of an “Ex Civil Servant re voting a bonus to the clerks. _ Unhappily, nothing seems to have come of it. Trusting the Government will see its way clear to act on my sn" nr estion, aud apologising for taking up your space—l am, &c., J DSTICE.
