ST. GEORGE'S HALL.
The opera-bouffe of Girofle Girofla was presented for the first time in Wellington at this house last evening to a crowded and fashionable audience despite the unfavorable weather. It is an exceedingly amusing piece, full of sparkling humor and fun. The dresses, scenery, music, and other accessories were of the best description, and the representation by the company was deserving of great praise. The pirates, Moors, and guests all seemed to have a knowledge of what to do, and were all capitally dressed. Miss Howarde sang and acted in her usual admirable manner—especially her singing of “ See how it sparkles,” which was loudly encored. Mr. R. W. Cary as Mourzouk, Chief of the Moors (the betrothed of Girofla), came out in a splendid “ make up,” and made a decided hit, his acting being really good, and contributing not a little to the success of the piece. His fine voice told to advantage especially in the finale to the first act—“ How like she is to Girofla.” Mr. C. Sydney appeared as Marasquin, and showed a good acquaintance with the music, aid his solo, “My father is a banker,” was capitally rendered. Misses Navaro and Nye acted and. sang in their usual effective manner.
