The Council is desirous of securing the services of a thoroughly competent Chief Surveyor for the city from the Ist day of JANUARY NEXT, who shall, in addition to the ordinary duties of that office, have the control of all the public works of the Corporation —drainage, waterworks, wharf, &c. The Council invites application for the same. The salary is fixed at £6OO per annum. Further particulars may be obtained on applying at the Town Clerk's Office. Applications (sealed and marked outside “For City Survoyorship,” and accompanied with testimonials), must be sent in, addressed to the Mayor and members of the City Council, not later than the afternoon of THURSDAY, the 20th INST., when the Council will meet to decide upon those that may have been received. RODERICK MANION, who went to New South Wales to get a hearing of justice for eightytwo days’ false imprisonment, and three hundred and two days, ou or about, falsely detained in Gladsvile Hospital, under false pretences, I beg to ask the New South Wales Government the reasons why they would not give me a hearing of the same ■ There is a statement of mine at the Colonial Secretary 9 Office. I trust that his Excellency Sir Hercules Robinson, for the honor of for both colonies and the Crown, and is to be hoped there will be a just investigation into the same.
