Tenders Railway Department, Secretary’s Office, Spencer-street, Melbourne, Nov. 16, 1877. Tenders for the purchase of the following NEW MACHINERY, &c., will he received until Noon, FRIDAY, JANUARY 14th, 1878, at the office of the Secretary for Railways, to whom all tenders are to be addressed and endorsed “ Tenders for Machinery, &c.” All the articles offered for sale are in excellent condition and quite new, having never yet been erected, and are now . lying open for inspection at the depot, Williamstown Junction ; 1. Pair of stationary engines, each 20 horsepower ; 20in. cylinder 3ft. stroke ; with fly-wheel lift. 9§in. in diameter; also, 3 egg-end boilers, ends and fire surface of best Lowmoor iron. The whole manufactured by Slaughter, Gruniug, and Co., of Bristol. Cost, £2600. Especially adapted for woollen or other mill. 2. Self-acting planing machine, E size, JimCrow action; by Sir Joseph Whitworth; will take in 6ft. ; maximum speed of countershaft 212 revolutions per minute, minimum, 170. Cost, 744. 3. Slotting machine, F size; to admit Bft. diameter ; top-driving apparatus, &c. ; cast-iron side frames, lift. lOiu. high, maximum speed countershaft 189, minimum 158 ; by Sir Joseph Whitworth. Cost, £667. 4. Hand-brake lathe, base plate, 24£t.; bed, 12ft.; 10ft. between centres; top-driv-ing apparatus, &o. ; maximum speed countershaft 58, minimum 38 ; an exceedingly powerful tool; by Sir Joseph Whitworth. Cost, £1550. 5. Boring bar, self-actin'.', 15ft. long, with boring heads and cutter, adapted for boring marine or other cylinders ; by Sir Joseph Whitworth. Cost, £3OB. 6. Rack saw-bench with pulleys, rollers, &c., complete; also, 5 circular saws, from 2 to 4ft. diameter; by S. Worssam & Co. Cost, £283. 7. Two cupolas, with valves and tuyeres complete, of 6 aud 12 tons capacity respect 1 vely; by Great Western Company of England. Cost, £2OO. 8. Blast fan, silent, 6 blades, in cast-iron ■case, diameter; by George Lloyd. Cost, £36. 9. Six foundry ladles, from 8 to 44in., with lifting gear. Cost, £42. 10. Three bossing forges, wrought-iron, each 3 blast, with pipes aud throttle valves complete. Cost, £63. CONDITIONS OF TENDERING AND SALE. 1. Tenders may be for any separate lot or :or any greater number. 2. A deposit of 10 per cent, on the amount ffiered must accompany each tender, such leposit to be either in hank notes or bank Iraft in the name of the Secretary for Railways. In the case of unsuccessful tenderers die deposit will be returned within twentymo days, but in the case of a successful tenderer failing to complete his purchase it will be forfeited to the Government. 3. Cash to be paid on acceptance of tender. 4. The .articles are to be taken delivery of in idieir present condition, and where they now lie, and must be removed, and if necessary weighed, at the expense of the purchaser, within thirty days from date of acceptance of Sender, failing which they may be again sold it his risk aud expense. 5. The highest or any tender will not necessarily be accepted. Note. —Drawings of the machinery may he jeen, aud every information obtained, on application to the Accountant, Spencer-street, Melbourne.
