Ohbistchukch, Saturday. A petition, signed by persons representing 276,000 acres freehold and 600,000 acres leasehold land, has been forwarded to Wellington, praying for the extension of the northern railway from Amberley to Amuri via Weka Pass. Dunedin, Saturday. The Baptists of Portobello performed the baptismal rites of their Church in the bay at Portobello yesterday, seven males and two females being dipped. The opera season closed with a crowded house last night. Two extra nights are announced. They leave for Christchurch on' Tuesday.
