RIFLE SHOOTING.
KAIWARRA RIFLES. ■ The Kaiwarra Kifle Volunteers fired for Company Prizes and prizes presented by Messrs. McCredie, Williams Cameron, and Co., and Mr. J. Turner, at their rifle range Kaiwarra, on the Prince of Wales Birthday, at 7 am There were twenty-one competitors, under'the command of Captain Thompson. There were two matches and the following were the prize-takers in the first match
Those marked thus -took range prizes of sa. at each range. First prize—A riding whip, presented by Messrs. Cameron, Williams and Co.; 2nd, toilet set, presented by Mr. J. 'turner; 3rd, £1 ; 4th, 155.; sth, 12s. 6d.; 6th, 10s ; 7th, Bs.; Bth, 75.; 9th, 65.; 10th, 45.; 11th, 2s. 6d. The prize presented by Mr. McOredie of tne value of £2 for the fewest misses was won by Private France. Mr, J. Turner's prize,of a fowling-piece of the value of £4 for the highest aggregate score the three first matches, is not decided yet, it only being the first competition. , ~, ~ A second match took place, in which there were eight competitors. Kange, 200 yards ; seven shots, and three prize?. The following were the prize-takers:—Private J. Compton, 25 points, 15*.; Sub-Lieut. Harris, 24 points, 10a.; Private J. H. Manning, 23 points, 6s. 6d. CITY RIFLES. The City Rifles held a competition on Friday last, at the Polhill-gully range, for seventeen prizes, amounting in value to £33, presented to them by the merchants and citizens. There was a large muster, and although the weather was not all that could have been desired for shooting, some good scores were made. Xhe winners and their respective scores were as follows:
