BY TELEGRAPH. PORT CHALMERS, Thursday. Arrived: Albion Company’s ship Dunedin, from London, with 30 passengers and 2300 tons of general cargo and 10 tons powder. She left London on 30th July crossed the Equator on 7th September, and passed the Cape of Good Hope on 2nd October. Experienced comparatively good winds and settled weather, and made Otago Heads at 6 this morning. LYTTELTON, Thursday. Arrived: Garibaldi. Sailed: Wakatipu, for Wellington, at 3.30 p.m.— Passengers—Messrs. Douglas and Fleming.—Tui, for Kaikoura and Wellington, at 6 p.m. The time-ball may be used to-day for rating chronometers. A chronometer true on Greenwich time would show I2h. 30min. when the ball drops. Any difference is error, plus or minus, of the chronometer The s.s. Wakatipu will be here to-day from the South. She will sail for Sydney during the day. The Manawatu sailed for Wanganui yesterday afternoon. The Government steamer Slella left the port early yesterday morning to search for the capsized schooner Clan Alpine. _ . ... The schooner Aurora, from the East Coast, with a full cargo of wool, arrived in port yesterday. She experienced heavy westerly winds on the coast, and touched at Castlepoint, Ohonga, and Akiteo, where 115 bales of wool were collected. The s.s. Taranaki got away for the Manukau via intermediate ports at 1.30 p.m. yesterday. The s.s. St. Kilda arrived in port at 8 o’clock yesterday morning, after a most severe passage from Lyttelton. She left Dunedin on Thursday week last, called at Oamaru, Timaru, and Lyttelton, and left the latter port at 4 p.m. on Monday last. From there experienced a strong N.W. wind, which when getting within three miles of the Heads increased to a furious gale, and she had to run back to Cape Campbell for shelter. Three times did she try to make the Heads, but every time she sighted them she had to run back as the gale was found to be too heavy for her. Ultimately a favorable change in the weather occurred, which she took advantage of, and arrived here as above-stated. The schooner Fiery C oss left again for Onehunga yesterday forenoon. She was supplied with a cable and anchor in lieu of the one which she had to slip at the Heads owing to the heavy north-west gale. The following vessels sailed yesterday for Pelorus Sound:—Brigantine Excelsior, schooners Rose of (Men, Transit, Star of the Sea, Cynthia, and ketch Prince Rupert. The s.s. P.angatira, Captain Evans, left Poverty Bay at 3 p.m. on Monday, arriving at Napier early next morning, crossed the bar at 10 o’clock: landed cargo and left again at 2.30 on Wednesday. Experienced variable winds and head sea during the run. arriving at 5 o’clock. She brings 25 tons of cargo and 2 ponies.
