CITY COUNCIL.
A special meeting of the City Council was held last evening at half-past seven o’clock. Present —Councillors George (in the chair), G. Allen, Dixon, Logan, J. A. Allan, Maginity, Greenfield, Macdonald, and Fisher. CUBA-STREET EXTENSION. The following is the report of the Public Works Committee on the claim of £7OOO by Mr. A. P. Stuart for the extension of Cuba-street :—“ Taking into consideration the fact that the adjoining acre was lately sold for £SOOO, that the land taken is only 63ft. frontage to Manners-street, and that by the extension of the street the remainder of the acre will have a frontage to same extension, and thereby be much increased in value, your committee consider that the sum of £2500 would be fair compensation for the land taken.” —The report was agreed to. BUILDING REGULATIONS. Councillor Allan moved that the Building Regulations now in force be rescinded, in order that the Council might adopt other bylaws on the same subject.—Agreed to. The proposed by-laws differed very little from those previously in force, and they were passed with very slight amendment.
