The whole of the buildings on the promises are nearly new, having been built upon the site of the old Red Lion, which was destroyed by fire in 1874. The timber used in the building consists of picked rimu, kauri, and totara, and all are roofed with best corrugated iron. The stables are some of the most convenient in the district, while the site ia unexceptionable, being one of the best for business on this coast, as it is close to the Wanganui Bridge, thus coraniauiling a large, extensive, and ever increasing traffic.
