A MAORI LETTER.

Friend Major Atkinson,—Greetings to yon. Do you bo strong to put out Sir George Grey. You have kept peace in New Zealand during your time ol government. Do not believe what is said about Tawhiao allowing roads and railways to be made through his country ; the King natives will not permit this to be done. Major Te Wheoro is a very good man, and gets £3OO a year; and as he must do something for his money, it is quite riolit that he should use the telegraph wires. Major Te Wheoro and a certain Governor formerly thought they would build a schoolhouse and a police barrack at Kohekohe, at Waikato, and this led to the Waikato war. I hope that Major Te Wheoro and Sir George Grey will not rashly go to, make roads and railways in the King country, and cause another war. Major Te Wheoro says he hears Tawhiao desires to see Sir George Grey ” All Tawhiao wants is to ask him to give back Waikato. . Do not let the Maori people be deceived by the flattering promises of smooth • tongued lawyers. Now, friend Atkinson, the Maori people wish you to be a Minister, and keep peace in the land, following in the footsteps of your old friend Sir Donald McLean. You uphold the last words of our friend, who is gone from among us. —All from ■your loving friend, J Hone te Pah aha.
