The Queensland Government forced the vote of £750,000 for new railways through Parliament, in the face of persistent obstruction, at a sitting occupying thirty hours, through one night and a day till dusk of next day, ending in a count-out. A thief, decamping with £350 and cashbox from the Ulster Hotel at Brisbane, was collared on the stairs by a young lady, through whose exertions he was captured with the whole of the booty. Goldstein, for the jewellery robbery at Melbourne, was sentenced to ten years. Mr. Lock, of Melbourne, asserts that a photograph of a lunatic in the Paramatta Asylum has been fully identified in England as Arthur Orton, and that there is no doubt about it.
