One of our evening contemporaries, whether through ignorance or of deliberate purpose, makes constant misstatements as to the action of political opponents. A short time ago the Evening Post announced that Mr. Bowen had broken his word deliberately in not making provision for the building of a Supreme Court House in Wellington. As most people interested in the matter knew at the time that the hon. gentleman had introduced a Bill to make such provision, we did not think it worth while to contradict the statement. But we supposed that when our contemporary discovered his mistake, he would have taken the trouble to withdraw so grossly offensive an imputation. • Last night, however, the Post speaks approvingly of the action taken by Mr. Sheehan and Mr. Bunny in getting the Bill passed to secure better accommodation for ihe Supreme Court at Wellington. But it forgets to add, what Mr. Sheehan did explain, that ihe present Government were merely carrying through the Bill introduced by the late Government, and on the face of which Mr. Bowen’s name appears as promoter. Owing to the change of Government it tell to Mr. Sheehan to move the second reading. This is a typical instance of the accusations constantly brought against the late Government in certain quarters.
