SEVENTH SYNOD OF THE DIOCESE OF WELLINGTON.

McWilliam, B. L. Tudor; laity—The Lay-Sec-retary, Messrs. G. Didsbury, E. W. Lowe, Hon. C. J. Pharazyn, C. J. Oruickshank, R. Lee, G. Williams, W. M. Bannatyne, C. C. Graham, C. P. Powles, G. Beetham, H. T. Clarke, A. r! Halcombe, E. S. Barton, E. Hunter, Colonel Gorton, F. W. hiemensohneider, and C. E. Marten. The proceedings opened with prayer. The minutes of former meeting were read and confirmed. Mr. Powles read the balance-sheet of the Diocesan Fund, and explained the items in the account. He stated that the balance was in consequence of a large donation to the fund and from the result of the canvas of the city by a lady. The Rev. B. W. Harvey obtained leave to suspend Standing Order No. 11, to move the following motion : Moved by Rev. B. W. Harvey, and seconded by Rev. A. Knell,— That it be an instruction to the committee on parochial accounts to tabulate the returns in schedule A. —Carried. Mr. Bannatyne read the report of the Cemetery Committee and balance-sheet. Archdeacon Stock read the report of the Standing Committee, and balance-sheet of the pension fund, capital account and endowment fund, and the report and balance-sheet of the Melanesian Mission.

The Bishop laid upon the table various trust reports The Rev. B. W. Harvey read the report of the book sales conducted by the Standing Committee. The Rev. J. F. Teakle moved, and the Lay Secretary seconded, —That a Printing Committee be appointed, with power to print in the report of the Synod such matter as may seem to them desirable from papers, reports, or other documents laid on the table, and with power to confirm the minutes of the last day’s session, to consist of the President, Archdeacon Stock, the Rev. B. W. Harvey, and Mr. Didsbury. The Rev. W. BaLLACHEY moved, and the Rev. B. W. Harvey seconded, —That a Standing Committee be appointed, to consist of Archdeacon Stock, Revs. B. W. Harvey and T. Fancourt, Messrs. C. P. Powles, W. H. Quick, R. Hunter, T. Buchanan, E. W. Lowe, H. T. Clarke, and G. Didsbury, Mr. Lee moved as an amendment, seconded by Colonel Gorton,— That the Standing Committee be appointed by ballot. Mr. Crdickshank moved, and Mr. Graham seconded,— That the debate be adjourned until next day, and made an order of the day. . Mr. Didsbury moved, and Mr. RibmenBCHNEIdeh seconded, —That section 2 of resolution 13 on offertories be amended, with a view to provide for two special offertories being held during the year throughout the Diocese in aid of the Diocesan Fund ; that the dates fixed for special offertories be altered as follow :—Diocesan Fund, on the last Sunday in February; Easter Offering, on Easter Day; Maori Mission, on the last Sunday in .Tune; Diocesan Fund, on the last Sunday in August ; Melanesian Mission, on the last Sunday in October; Pension Fund, on the last Sunday in December. The motion was lost on a division—Clergy: ayes, 3; noos, 9; Laity: ayes, 6; noes, 11. Rev. A. Knell moved, and Mr Lee seconded, —That in future all clergymen holding the Bishop's license in this Diocese, whether in charge of a cure of souls or not, be entitled to take their seats in this Synod. —Carried. The Synod then adjourned.
