THE DOCTORS AND THE MUNICIPAL BY-LAWS.
■ TO THE EDITOR OP THE NEW ZEALAND TIMES. g llij J was glad to see in your leader of yesterday that you upheld the necessity for doctors as well as fire brigades being exempt from the by-law enforcing driving round corners at a walk. A moment’s thought would prove to any one with common, sense how absolutely necessary it is that they should not be fettered by rules which are very - properly made to keep in bounds the careless driving of cabbies, butcher hoys, aud others. Dr. Diver deserves the thanks of -the public for attempting to get rid of a most needless and dangerous trammel A doctor would surely be the last person to drive over any one, for apart from the mental anxiety caused by the fact of having hurt a human being, he has what I fear would be with some men a much more. deterrent cause, namely, the certainty of having to attend the injured person gratis. ; I am glad to hear that Dr. Diver intends moving further in the matter by applying to the Council Trusting you will kindly insert this letter in your valued paper, I am, &c., Honor to whom Honor la due. TO THE EDITOR OP THE NEW ZEALAND TIMES. Sir, In a local print it was stated, with reference to Dr. Diver driving round a corner faster than at a walking pace when going to see a patient who had burst a blood vessel, that it did not see why “ fish should be made of one and flesh of another.” Now, the City Council should note this, and not make “fish of one and flesh of another,” but do justice to the ratepayers, whose servants they are; and I have no doubt that they will. — I am, &c.. Justice.
