The Alma, from Melbourne, has arrived in the roadstead. AUCKLAND, Thursday. Sailed : The Hero for Sydney. TIMARU, Thursday. Arrived: Anne Bow, three-masted schooner, from Newcastle, late yesterday afternoon. The time-ball may be used to-day for rating chronometers. A chronometer true on Greenwich time would show 12h. SOrain. when the ball drops. Any difference is error, plus or minus, of the chronometer. The steamers Rangatira from Napier, Kennedy from Nelson, and Wanaka from North, will arrive here this morning. The latter boat goes South at 3 o clock this afternoon. The departure of the Tui for Foxton has been postponed till this afternoon. We were wrongly informed yesterday regarding the movements cf the s.s. Napier. She did not come on from Nelson for this port direct, but called in to Blenheim. She was expected to leave there at 8 o’clock this morning, and will therefore arrive here in the course of the afternoon. # . The Union Company's s.s. Wakatipu, Captain A. Cameron, arrived in harbor at 1 o'clock this morning. She left Sydney at 2.30 p.m. on the 22nd insb., and met with light head winds and fine weather throughout. Passed Stephens Island at 5 p.m. last evening, arriving as above. She brings 190 tons of this port, and 140 for forward ports. The Wakatipu ■will sail for Port Chalmers direct to-monow. The Government steamer Stella. Captain Fairchild, arrived in port yesterday morning at 11 o’clock. She left here on the 20th inst., and arrived at Onehunga on the 22nd. Sailed again that night for Astralobe Roads, where a beacon was erected on the Hapuka Reef. Then went to the French Pass and permanently moored the buoy there and painted the beacon. When coming through the Strait to this port she touched at The Brothers to take a carpenter off. The Stella sailed last evening for Kaipara to survey portion of that harbor, and also to fix buoys to mark the Channel. She will call at Onehunga as she goes up. The s.s. St. Kilda arrived from Wanganui yesterday afternoon at 6 o'clock. She left there at 11 o'clock the previous evening, and experienced a strong head wind down. She brought a full cargo of live sheep consigned to Mr. Gear. She will sail South this forenoon. The s.a Hawea arrived in port from the South at 7 a.m. yesterday, full up of cargo ; about 100 tons of it was shipped at Dunedin, and 150 tons at Lyttelton. Nearly 300 tons were landed here, part of which was transhipped into the Taranaki, which has been lying in port since Sunday last awaiting it. The Hawea left Port Chalmers at 11 a.m. on Monday last; reached Lyttelton next day at 2,50 p.m.; sailed at 4.30 p.m, on Wednesday, and arrived here as above stated, having experienced fine weather throughout. She brought up the Kingarooroa’s mail from Australia. The Hawea sailed for Auckland, via the East Coast, at 3.15 p.m. yesterday. The p.s. Lyttelton, from Kekerangu, with a cargo of tallow, skins, and wool, arrived in port yesterday morning at 3 o’clock. The s.s. Jane Douglas arrived from Rangitikei last night at 11 o’clock, with a cargo of pigs and timber. She left there at 12 o’clock same day. She is expected to sail for Foxton at 7 o’clock this afternoon. The p.a. Luna reached port at 10 o'clock last night from Lyttelton, after a long and rough trip up. She left Lyttelton at 7.30 p.m. on Wednesday, and experienced a heavy 8. K. swell with a strong wind from the opposite direction till arrival here The Luna has a full cargo on board, forty tons of which is for this port, and the remainder for the West Coast, whither she will proceed this afternoon at 4 o'clock. The schooner Cynthia came into port from Pelorus Sound at 8 o’clock last evening, with a cargo of timber. She left there yesterday forenoon, and carried light northerly wind with heavy southerly swell across the Strait.
