MEETING O F THE COLLEGE GOVERNORS.

A-meeting of the Wellington College Governors was held on Sept.T7 at the office of. the Board of Education. Present —His Worship the Mayor (in the chair), the Rev. W. Paterson, and : Messrs. Brandon ' and Jackson. Mr. Wilson, the head-master of the College, also attended.

The bank accounts were laid-before !the Board, showing an overdraft of £540 Bs. 6d. , UNIVERSITY CLASSES, &C.

In reference to the arrangements for University classes, Mr. Wilson Explained that at the request of various persona, and particularly of the masters of Board schools, he had started classes in Latin twice a week, and in mathematics once a week. The classes had been carried on by him with the 1 assistance ; of Mr. Hardy. The fees derived from this source amounted to £13, : which' he held - at the disposal of the' Board. Tho arrangement had hitherto been only of a ‘temporary character, but he .suggested that some arrangement should be made for placing them on a more permanent basis, as this was a good and useful work, and entailed no expense oh the Board. The University required that the scholars should attend the whole course. - ! , ! The Rev. Mr. Paterson said he should like to see a broad distinction between the Grammar School, and the higher school. He approved of these classes, and considered it desirable that they should be continued. i , Mr. Wilson suggested that the Board might advertise these classes and receive the fees.

The Kev. Mr. Paterson said he would approve of the suggestion if it did not involve extra expenses. i On the motion of Brandon, it was resolved that the past proceedings in the matter be. approved, that the fees be handed over to Mr. ; Wilson and Mr. Hardy, and that a, committee Consisting ; of. the Eev. The Secretary stated that he had received an offer from Mr. Hugh Eraser to lease 140 acres of land, being a portion of the reserve at Carnarvon, at £8 per year. The rent was not large, but the land was swampy.
