The Napier, for Blenheim, got away at midnight. The p.s. Manawatu arrived in port from Wanganui at 9 a.m. yesterday. She left there at 6 o'clock the previous evening, and experienced fine weather down. She brought, besides a quantity of wool and skins, 100 sheep for Messrs. J. and H. Barber. The schooner Colleen Bawn, with timber from Pelorus Sound, arrived in port yesterday. The injuries which she received by striking against a rock at the entrance to the Sound some time ago have been repaired, and she is now in good condition. We have been infermed on very reliable authority that the New Zealand Steam Shipping Company are having now prepared in this city, by a well-known engineer, plans of a new steamer, which it is proposed to send Home and have a vessel constructed therefrom. She will he about 200 feet long, and register between 100 and 200 tons. Her average speed is expected to be 16 knots, and she is to be employed in the coastal trade. The Union Co.’s s.s- Hawea, Captain Wheeler, from Northern ports, arrived in harbor yesterday at 9.30 a.m. She left the Manukau at 2 p.m. on the 14th, and was off Taranaki next morning at 6 o’clock. The Hawea went South at 4.30 p.m. yesterday. The Union Go.'s s.s. Wanaka, from the South, arrived in port at 12.30 p.m. yesterday. She left Dunedin at 4 p.m. on the 15th; arrived at Akaroa at 9 a.m. on the 16th ; left at 10.30 a.m., and reached Lyttelton that afternoon at 4 o'clock; sailed for this port at 6 p.m. next day, and arrived here as above. She had, besides a large quantity of cargo for this port. 200 sheep for Messrs. J. and 11. Barber. The Wanaka’s departure for the North has been postponed till to-day. The brigantine F. W. Tucker, which was here about two years ago, paid another visit to this port yesterday, with a cargo of timber and maize from Grafton, Clarence River, New South Wales. ■ The timber consists of ironbark to be used in the Queen’s wharf extension. The F. W. Tucker has made a rattling fine passage of eight days, having cleared the river on the 10th, and carried moderate westerly winds till Sunday night last, when a very heavy S. W. gale came up, accompanied with high seas, and as the brigantine was deep she took large quantities of water on board, which smashed some of the cabin skylight, carried away the binnacle, and also wa°hed out a portion of the bulwarks. The land was made next day, and she passed Stephens Island at 2 a.m. yesterday, arriving here as above. The Tucker was berthed at the wharf last evening.
