Riverton, Tuesday.

At the Police Court yesterday Francis McCarthy, on remand, charged with indecent assault, was further remanded till the 20th instant.

Christchurch, Tuesday.

The licensed victuallers, who returned their candidates at last City Council election at the head of the poll, intend bringing forward Charles Clarke, auctioneer, for the Mayoralty. Considerable disquiet still prevails respecting Needham’s case. The Press leader of Saturday last is strongly condemned by two other papers and public correspondence in the Times. After replying to a leader in detail, the Times concludes as follows: —“ We are led to observe that the Hon. Mr. Fox has called the attention of the Minister of Justice to the case, who promised to investigate it. We trust that Mr. Fox will not rest satisfied with this answer, but follow the matter up. If no satisfaction is soon obtained, it will be necessary for the people of Christchurch to petition Parment for a full inquiry.” Auckland, Tuesday.
