No confirmation has been received here yet of the report of Plevna having fallen. A searching investigation is intended to be held into the loss of the Lord Ashley. Heavy rains have fallen, and have done the country immnnso good. The Victorian Assembly has adjourned for a fortnight, owing to the Council postponing the consideration of the Land Tax Bill. It is said that the Government is determined to see the expressed will of the country carried out. Commercial affairs remain unchanged. Breadstuffs quiet; holders disinclined to operate.
