jQLEOTOES OF TE ARO WARD. DO NOT FORGET RECORD YOUR VOTES TO-DAY, Between 9 and 6 o’clock, FOB KRULL LOGAN AND MACDONALD As Councillors for Te Aro Ward. 3 RATEPAYERS OF TE ARO Ladies and Gentlemen, — Allow me to thank you for the confidence you evince by again proposing me as a candidate for the representation of Te Aro Ward in the City Council. My experience of the Corporation is, that the hard work is not confined to general meetings of the Council, and, therefore, the man who wishes to be of use to the ratepayers must take a lively interest the details —such as public works, drainage, and wharf committees. This is where the real work occurs, and if during the pass few months I have merited your approbation, and you think it advisable to re-elect me, I can only say that my best exertions shall be used to further the interests of Te Aro Ward in particular and the city in general. I beg to remain, Ladies and Gentlemen, Yours faithfully, EDWARD DIXON. Wellington, Sept. 5, 1877. 0 THE RATEPAYERS OF LAMBTON WARD. Gentlemen, —I am once more a candidate to represent you in the City Council, and if elected I shall, as I have ever done, work earnestly for the welfare of the City. I have represented the above Ward for over ten years, and feel confidence, in referring to my past services, of securing your votes and in-,. TO THE ELECTORS OF LAMBTON WARD. Gentlemen, —I again offer my services as a Councillor for your Ward, and although during the last few months the Town Council has witnessed most persistent and unreasonable ohstruotiveness, there has, I think, been most substantial progress made. The Town Belt question has been so settled that, while the rights and privileges of the citizens to their magnificent and invaluable domain secured, a most liberal rental has been obtained for the sections. In the matter of tendering for public works, the Council, to prevent collusion and dishonest tendering, has expressly stipulated that in all cases the deposits must consist of a substantial percentage of the contracts ; that they shall consist either of cash or bankers’ marked cheques, and shall be forfeited in case of failure to accept. The Council has also resolved that, in all important matters, no individual member shall act officially without the full knowledge and concurrence of his colleagues, and that all business and correspondence shall pass through one office, so that there shall, be a full public record of all transactions. I hope no amount of special pleading will ever induce the Council to forego these guarantees of safety. lam sorry that so little progress has been made towards effectively draining the city ; something must promptly be done on a large scale, to keep pace with the city’s progress. It is very much to be regretted that the new building regulations, which ought to have been in operation in Juue, are not yet put in force, owing to the cause I have stated. I consider brick party walls, in the centre of the city, essential almost to its existence, and, if elected, will never rest till this is done. And I would also endeavor to place the City expenditure on a more systematic footing, basing it on the current revenue, and attending primarily to the most pressing and really important wants, instead of by mere clamorousness obtaining the lion’s share. to WARD. Soliciting y«rr support, I remafci, Yours faithfully, J. A. ALLAN,
