CAMBRIDGE LOCAL EXAMINATIONS.

TO THE EDITOR OF THE NEW ZEALAND TIMES, Sir, —You will oblige if you. will permit me to advert to this subject once more. Mr. Kenneth Wilson, in a letter which appears in your issue of this morning, says “as a point of great importance we obtain full particulars of the causes of failure in the case of all those who are unsuccessful.” If this be so, heads of schools who send competitors might reasonably expect that in cases of failure such “ full particulars ” would be forwarded to them. lam not aware, however, that this courtesy has been extended to any beyond the institution oyer which Mr. Wilson presides. I hold that the principal of an important school, who becomes closely associated with an examining body by reason of any office he may hold in connection therewith, lays himself open to suspicion as soon as he applies its tests to his own pupils. Ido not say that Mr. Wilson has not a soul above such littleness as this remark may imply, yet we cannot deny that human nature is prone to selfishness, and it is much to be regretted that it has not been thought necessary to dispose of “ Inquirer’s" question re the examination papers, &c., more ingenuously. In the cause of education I trust all will be satisfactorily explained, and that-public confidence in these examinations may be the more firmly established.—l am, &c.. Observer, Wellington, Sept. 10.
