At the Resident Magistrate’s Court to-day Joseph Cockroft, junr., a bankrupt, was charged with not fully stating his affairs to his creditors’ trustee, as to whom he disposed of portion of his effects, and for what consideration. He was committed for trial at the criminal sittings of the District Court. John Abbotsford Craig was committed for trial at the District Court for obtaining money (£10) by valueless cheques. Dunedin, Friday. The information laid against Weir and Samson, for incendiarism, was dismissed to-day. Further evidence was taken in George Proudfoot’s case, which was adjourned. Dummyism in land speculation is said to prevail at Roxburgh. The matter was brought under the notice of the Waste Bands Board yesterday, and the Chief Commissioner is to inquire into it. A lad named Hay, twelve years old, fell into the machinery at the Kensington brickkiln yesterday, and was killed instantaneously. New Plymouth, Friday. A body has been found on Harriet Beach, but not identified. It is probably the body of James Baker. The Fiery Cross in entering the port this morning grounded on the north bank. The cargo is being discharged. She will probably be got off to-night. Wanganui, Friday. The dates fixed for holding the colonial regatta are the 12th and 13th February. The prizes amount to £4OO.
