In the House of Representatives yesterday afternoon the Hon. Donald Reid introduced the Lands Bill Mr. Reid made a singularly temperate, measured, but none the less effective speech. He frankly acknowledged the difficulty of applying a cast-iron rule to waste lands administration throughout the colony; but claimed for the principles of the measure that they were capable of general application. It is worthy of notice that, with the exception of Mr. W. A. Murray, no member seemed to feel disposed to challenge the leading points of the Bill and of Mr. Reid’s speech. In a recent issue we had something to say of the Bill, and purpose making a few further remarks on the matter to-morrow.
