She had then to run back to port to repair damages. The schooner Isabella Pratt arrived in port on Saturday morning from Oamaru, with a full cargo of colonial produce. , « , . , , , The schooners Nelson and Excelsior, bound from Pelorus Sound to Lyttelton, timber laden, had to seek the shelter of our port from the S.E. gale which blew ©n Saturday. ~ , , , The Elizabeth Curl from Lyttelton, produce laden, arrived here on Saturday night. , The s.s. Wanaka from Lyttelton and Port Chalmers, will arrive here .to-morrow, and sail same day at midnight for the Manukau, via intermediate po- ts. A strong S.E. gale came up on Saturday forenoon, accompanied with heavy rain and hail squalls, and lasted throughout the day. The barometer continued to fall steadily, and at midnight the wind moderated considerably, but at 5 o'clock the following morning it cfyne up again, this time from the S.W., and blew a vefr severe gale all yesterday; towards the evening, however, the wind commenced to lull slightly, and the’barometer was rapidly rising. The steamers Ringarooma, for Melbourne, via the South ; Napier, for Blenheim ; andTui, for Foxton, which were expected to sail on Saturday afternoon, had to have their de■partuie postponed on account of the severe weather. The Ringarooma left the wharf yesterday afternoon at 1 o’clock ; but on reaching the Heads a very high head sea and strong gale were found to prevail, and Captain Whitburn had to run back and bring the steamer up in Worser Bay, where she would wait till the sea moderates. The other two steamers are still at the wharf awaiting an abatement in the weather. The Kiwi, for Flaxboume, # and a fleet of small sailing craft are also prisoners in ihe port through the unfavorable weather.
