When the ketch Reliance, Captain Swede, was passing The Brothers Island on Wednesday, she was signalled to from there to the effect that the aid of a smgeon was required. On the arrival of the Reliance yesterday the affair was reported to the proper authorities, who, we understand, will send the aid requested as soon as possible. The barque Elsinore was berthed at the wharf yes terday morning, and will commence discharging, weather permitting, to-day. The schooner T. B. Taylor arrived from Lyttelton yesterday afternoon at 3.30. She-left there on the 24th Instant. Experienced strong N.E. winds, with heavy sea, and had to seek shelter in Port Levy till Tuesday, when she left with a light southerly wind, which carried her to Kalkoura, where a change to the northward took place, and held for about four hours; thence the wind again took into the southward, with thick rainy weather and much thunder and lightning. During last night the breeze took her up to this port. He cargo consists of colonial produce. The schooner Owake, with 45,000 ft. sawn timber from tiie Bluff, arrived in port at 4 p.ra. yesterday. She left there on the 22nd inst., and had easterly winds with heavy sea to Kaikoura, where a southerly breeze was found which took her into port. The s.s. Tui arrived in port from Foxton'yesterday evening at 10 o'clock. She left Foxton at 12.30 p.m. yesterdav. and crossed the bar at 1.15 p.m. She experienced very thick weather through the Strait and till arrival. Tue Tui is expected to sail for Foxton again to-day. The s.s. Jane Douglas, which left Foxton in company with the s.s. Tui, had not arrived in port up to the time of our going to press this morning. The Jane Douglas is a sister boat to the Tui, but alterations made by Mr.Scager to the latter boil’s machinery have made her superior to the former vessel in point ol steaming. Messrs. McMeckan, Blackwood, and Co.'s s.s. Ringarooma, Captain Whitburn, arrived in port yesterday at 7.20 a.m., after a smart run from Lyttelton of fourteen and a half hours. She left Melbourne at 5 p.m. (New Zealand time) on the' 22nd, and experienced light variable winds across to the Bluff, which was reached at 8.30 a.m. on the 27th; left same day at 4.30 p.m., and got into Port Chalmers at 7 o’clock next morning. Was away same day at 3.35 p.m., and made Lyttelton at 9.15 a.m. on the 29th, bailed at 5 oMock same evening, and arrived as above. Had easterly wind up the coast. We are indebted to Mr. Chatfleld, purser, for flies, etc. The Ringarooma discharged 170 tons cargo, and sailed at 2 o’clock yesterday afternoon for Nelson. She is expected back today, ami will sail 'or Melbourne via the South tomorrow. The ketch Reliance, from Pelorus Sound, arrived in port yesterday forenoon, timber laden. Captain Swede reports that about a fortnight ago, when the schooner Colleen Bawn was running back to Pelorus Bound, being on a voyage to Wanganui with timber, for shelter from a strong S.E. gale, with very thick we -ther, she struck on a rock situated at the entrance to the Sound, and known as Trio Rock. A hole was knocked in her bottom; but she was got off shortly afterwards, and by keeping the pumps going she managed to thrash up the Sound, where she was beached. The Duncan Bros., of Pelorus Sound, and owners of the vessel, on hearing of theaccidcntsentthe steamer belonging to the, sawmill to her assistance, and she was towed off and brought to aplace of safety, where sh'* will be repaired. The k a. Kiwi arrived in harbor yesterday morning from the East Coast. She left Napier at 8 a in. on Tuesday : got off Castlepoint at 11 p,m. same day; sailed a?ain at 10.30 a.m.. and arrived here as above. The Union Company's s.s. Wakatipu. Captain Angus C’ame<on, arrived in harbor yesterday at 3 p.m., after a smart passage of under five days from Sydney, which port she left at 4 p.m. on the 25th inst. Experienced fresh westerly winds, with high sea, on clearing the Heads, which gradually moderated into a steady S.W. breeze. Passed “Stephen. Island yesterday morning at 7 o'c'ock, arriving here as above. The Wakatipu has about 90 tons cargo to discharge here. She is expected to go South at 3 o’clock this afternoon. Wo thank Mr. Newman, purser, for report and file. The Union Company's s.s. Hawea, Captain Kennedy, arrived in port from the North at 6 a.m. yesterday. She left the Mannkau on Monday, and arrived off New Plymouth at daylight next day; sailed at 11 a.m., and arrived at Nelson at midnight. Got away again at 10.30 a.m. on Wednesday, and reached Picton at 6 p.m.; sailed at 1.30 a.m., and arrived hero as above. The Hawea sailed for the South at 2.30 p.m. yesterday.
