SUPREME COURT—CIVIL SITTINGS.
(Before his Honor the Chief Justice.)' The Court resumed yesterday morning at 10 o’clock. THE WAKA MAORI LIBEL CASE. When the Court adjourned on Monday evening a discussion had been proceeding as to the admissibility of certain evidence taken before the commission in Napier, Mr. Macassy having objected to some of the answers given to counsel on that occasion, on the ground that they had been elicited by leading (and therefore improper) questions. Yesterdaymorningfurther argument was taken, Mr. Oonolly contending that the questions referred to were not leading questions ; and ultimately it was decided to omit from the evidence as before that Court certain portions admitted to have been irregularly elicited. Counsel then proceeded to read the voluminous evidence taken before the commission, which occupied the Court from about eleven o’clock till half-past five in the afternoon, when the Court adjourned to ten o’clock next day.
