A SIMPLE programme has, it is said,; been chalked out by the Opposition, as represented by Sir George Grey, Rees, and Co, 'for the remainder of the session. Finding that such Support as they receive against the Gbverriijaent is merely from a certain number of gentlemen who want to step into power, but have ho sympathy with the ex-Gbvernor arid hisfollowing, they intend to : bs as purely obstructive as possible, and by all possibie ( means to delay legislation of every kind for a’ time. Then they hope to be r able to say to Govern-' mgnt, V You cannot carry out your measures. Let people who can - take your places.” This policy is not novel with the great Pro-Consul, but in the past it has generally resulted in strengthening the hands of those to whom he has been opposed. Since writing the above we learn , that, the Opposition have made up their minds to the course indicated in case o£ certain defeat on the question now before the House. They, however, entertain still some hopes of negotiating to-day, and, by promising everyone who will vote for them a seat in the future Cabinet, of being able to show in the division on the incidence of taxation a decent minority. Failing this dernier resaort (as is moat likely to happen), they will let the Government have its .way without pressing a division, and will pursue. the tactics we have mentioned. . , '
