It will be remembered that a petition was signed in Lyttelton some time ago, praying the Government to erect a light at Port Underwood for the guidance of vessels seeking shelter there. In reference to this the Canterbury Press has received the following telegram from Mr. Murray-Aynsley, M.H.RJ—“Presented petition last week to Commissioner of Customs, and placed notice on Order Paper. Received answer that as most coasters sought shelter in Cloudy Bay, Government would place light on Wairau Head flagstaff.” The Arawata, which will arrive here to-day with the Suez mail, will sail for Nelson same evening, 1 The s.s.
