In Europe, the Russians have evacuated Kustendji. Bombay, August 17, 11 a.m. The left wing of .Mehemet Pasha is making *owards Sulieman Pasha, whose cavalry are now beyond the Balkans. In Asia Minor General Loris Melikoff has received reinforcements, and has resumed offensive operations against Mukhtar Pasha. •. Ismali checks Tergukason (sic.) . EUROPEAN NEWS. THE SITUATION AS VIEWED IN ENGLAND. THE PREMIER AND FOREIGN MINISTER REMAIN IN LONDON. Singapore, August 17. Earl Beaconsfield and Lord Derby remain in town during the autumn. AUSTRALIAN NEWS. Sydney, Friday. Woodlands won the Hawkesbury-Guineas; Janitor won the Handicap. Case brandy, 325.; quarters, 9a. 3d.; kerosene, 2s. 2d.; rice, nominal; breadstuffs, unchanged and quiet; tobacco and sugar un. changed; Belmont sperms, 10£d. to 10£d. Melbourne, Friday. The Budget last night shows that the revenue last year was over four and a half millions, and the expenditure four millions three hundred and fifty-eight thousand. The estimated revenue for the current year, including last year's balance, is nearlj five millions, and the expenditure four millions eight huu-' dred and sixty thousand. Certain duties are abandoned and new ones imposed, including a tax on imported stock.
