Prince, Sutton, and Stoddart. LYTTELTON, Tuesday. Arrived : "Wave, brig, from the Thames. 'Sailed : Kate McGregor, for Auckland. Owing to the southerly gale last night, the St. Kilda brought up at the Heads. She left for Timaru at 1 p.m, to-day. HOKITIKA, Tuesday. Arrived; Albion, from Melbourne. The sea is too rough for her to be tendered to-day. She will wait till to-morrow. The s.s. Easby got away lor the South at 2,30 p.m, yesterday, The brigaatine J. G. Coleson came up from Lyttelton yesterday forenoon, with a full cargo of produce. The topsail, schooner Kaiuma got into port from Kaipara yesterday. The schooner Unity, timber laden, arrived in hartn.r yesterday morning from Picton. The ship Taranaki was signalled from Port Chalmers yesterday afternoon, and came into port with a fresh southerly breeze, anchoring off the wharf at 5 p.m. The Taranaki came to Port Chalmers from Glasgow, making a rapid run out of 82 days from port to port. Descriptions both of her and her sister shio the Marlborough have appeared at length in these columns, which 'do not now need recapitulation. Suffice it to say, that all the praise which has been bestowed upon them by Southern contemporaries was well deserved, for k more handsome and betterappointed ship than the' Taranaki has seldom visited this port. Her cabin and deck fittings are all of the most modern character, and are in first-class order, and the vessel herself has a look of substantiality throughout, which shows, that neither skill, expense, nor pains has been spared in her construction. The Taranaki left Port Chalmers at 3 o’clock on ..Saturday afternoon last, and after, contending against variable, northerly winds, got , a breeze when about 2u miles off Banks Peninsula, at 8 o’clock on Monday night from the southward, which carried the ship into port. The Taranaki has about 700 tons of cargo on board for this port, a considerable portion of which is the plant for the waterworks. On discharging her cargo here she will ballast tor Oregon, where she will load for Home. Mr E. \V. Mills Is her agent. She will be entered at the Customs to-day and berthed at the wharf. The usual notice to consignees appears in another column. The Union Company’s s.S. Hawea, with the San; Francisco mail on .board, arrived in port yesterday' afternoon at 4,30. She left Onehunga at 12 30,p.m on Sunday last, arrived at New Plymouth at 7.30 a.ra. next day ;'sailed again at 9 a.m„ and arrived at Nelson at 10.30 p.m.; left at midnight, and arrived in Picton at 10.30 a.m. on the 14th ; was away again an hour afterwards, and arrived in harbor as above mentioned. Experienced strong westerly winds down to Nelson, the ce ; fresh S.E. winds to arrival. The ilawea went South last night. Messrs. MoMeckan, Blackwood, and Co.’s s.s,! Tararua arrived in port from Melbourne and Hobarton, via the South, as 9 a.m. yesterday. She left, Melbourne on Ist inst. at 3 p.m,,, and arrived af Hdbarton at 1 p.m. on the 3rd, after a fine weather passage; shipped : a quantity of cargo, and left at 2 p.m. next day ..wind blowing half a gale from W.N.W., then veered to. S. W„ and increased to a whole gale ; with ve> y heavy sea. The Tararua ran under sail and steam until- the foresail and foretopsail blew away, and then, on the 7 th,' she was brought to-the wind and ■iay-to- for 'four hours,, until a; succession, of furious squalls passed over.. She was then kept away, and, with the vale still heavy.behind her, arrived at the. Bind' at 3 p.m. on the Bth. Discharged 40 tons cargo -and four lior»es,-and loft at 3 p.m. on the-9th, and i arrived in Port Chalmers at 8 a.m. on the 10th;: sriled on the tub, and arrived at Lyttelton on the ! 12th : left at 3.39 p.m. on the 14th, and arrived here i as above. She sailed for Melbourne, via the West; Coast, at 5.30 o’clock yesterday afternoon. The Union Co.’s s.s. Wakatlpu, Captain Cameron, arrived in harbor from the South at 0 a.m. yesterday. She left Port Chaira'ers at. 6,40 p.m. on the 11th.inat., and cleared the, Heads, at 0,20 p.m. Had light-head winds, and arrived at Lyttelton at-11 a.m. on the 12th. Left again, at 6.30 p.m. on the 13th, and experienced a fresh southerly breeze up to arrival In port as above stated.- The Wakatlpu sailed for Sydney direct at 4.30 p.m. yesterday. ' " J . The s.s. Stormhird, Captain Dolle, arrived in harbor from Wanganui at. 2.45 p.m. yesterday, and went round to the Patent Slip ami towed the Luna round to the Breastwork. The Stonnblrd left Wanganui at 11.45 p.rn. on Monday, crossed the bar half ail hour afterwards, experienced strong S.E. wind, and came inside Kapiti- and Mana. ■ She .rounded Xorawlti at 1.30 p.m. yesterday, with a !,heavy .sea -running, and arrived hero as above. *Tho Stormhird will sail for Napier at midnight to-night, ' ' The « s.
