COMMERCIAL.
The import trade has been moderately active during the week; but prices, owing to heavy stocks, are far from satisfactory, and the arrival of the Endymlon and Glenlyon will tend to keep matters in the same state for some little time to come. Quotations remain unaltered, but with a further downward tendency. In colonial produce, keg butter remains at 8d to 9d per lb. for prime cure, sale's being entirely restricted to the supply of ordinary local tra<le wants. Canterbury cheese is in full supply at 7d to 8d; bacon and hams overstocked, at 9d to lOd. Flour has been cbming forward'from Southern ports in considerable - quantities: best samples of Oamaru and Canterbury mitts cannot be quoted higher than £lB for trade lots. Oats are firmer, and holders are asking '4s 3d per bushel for prime milling sorts ; good feeding oats are worth 3s lOd to 4s. Potatoes in full supply at 60s per ton.
