, (REOTBR’S SPECIAL 10 PRESS AGENCY./ :. IMPORTANT WAR NEWS. RUSSIANS EVACUATING THEIR POSITIONS SOUTH OP THE BALKANS. [The following telegram was received at the New Zealand Times office at hall-past two o’clock this morning]:— Singapoee, August 8, 2.55. The Russians have evacuated all their positions south of the Balkans, except the Leipa Pass. The Turks have re-oocapied Kesanlik. London, August 6. The Russians state that their loss at Plevna was only 5000. Osman Pasha’s forces have been reinforced, and are now strongly entrenched at Plevna. The Russians are encamped six miles east from Plevna. . Fighting is going on at Rasgrad. The Russians, after their defeat at Eski Saghra, retreated in disorder. , Sulieman Bey now occupies Kaiubozha Pass (? Karabunar). Hobart Pasha is cruising in the Black Sea. The expedition to the Caucasus has been abandoned. The relations between Greece and Turkey are critical. In consequence of their defeat the Government have asked the House to pass the Appropriation Bill, with p. view to a dissolution' of Parliament’, but nothing has been decided. 1 Melbourne, Wednesday!
