TE ARO RECLAMATION.
The polling for and against the proposal to reclaim the Te Aro foreshore was taken yesterday. The number of votes recorded was not large, which might have - been expected, as it was generally understood that a very large majority of the ratepayers all along favored the project, and consequently, numbers, feeling certain as to the result, would not deem it worth while taking the trouble to record their votes. It is worthy of remark that in Te Aro, where naturally the polling was strongest, there was only one vote against the proposal, there being 182 in favor of it. In Thorndou very few votes were recorded, and the result, as will be seen from the appended table, was sixty-six for and fifty-four against the proposed reclamation ; but in no other ward was the polling so even. The poll, which commenced at 9 o’clock, closed at 6 o’clock, and the returns from the different booths were as follows : Wards For. Against. Thorndon C 6 64 Lambton 154 13 Te Aro .. 132 1 Cook .. .. - .. .. IST 2 Totals 559 70 The majority in favor of the reclamation was thus 489.
