The barque Ocean Chief was at anchor at the Heads yesterday. The Ringarooma will sail for Melbourne via the South this afternoon. The s.s. Tui sailed for Foxton yesterday evening at 7 o’clock. We understand that Captain Fairchild is now in command of the s.s. Stella. The Stella will probably leave to-day for Cape Maria Van Diemen, calling at the lighthouses in the Sfralt. H.M.S. Sappho arrived in' port yesterday morning from Nelson, which place she lelf -.the previous forenoon. How long the Sappho will stay, here is at present not known. • * The s.s. Hawea, from the South, is expected to arrive here to-morrow morning. • The p.s. Manawatu arrived from'Wanganui at 3 a.m. yesterday. She left there at 1 p.m. on Wednesday. Crossed the bar at 2 p.m.. and experienced light head winds down. The Manawatu sailed for Wanganui at 8 o’clock last night. The topsail schooner Marmion, Captain Hart, with a full cargo of kauri timber for Messrs. Greenfield and Stewart, arrived in harbor from Kaipara yesterday afternoon. She left Kaipara on the 24th ult,, and had to beat down the whole way from Kaipara bar to Pencarrow lighthouse against hard S.E. wind, and was under reefed.canvas the whole lime.- , Tehre were only two vessels in the river when the Marmion left, and* two others just arrived as she was getting out. The Union Co.’s s.s. Taranaki, Captain Griffiths, arrived.in_port from the North yesterdayat 7 a.m. She left the Manukau at 12.45 a.m. on the 80th, and arrived at Taranaki at 5 a.m. next day; sailed at 8.30 a.m., reaching Nelson at midnight ;.left at 11 a.m; on the Ist, and got to'Picton at 7 p.m."; left again at 2 o’clock yesterday morning, arriving here as above. Experienced fine weather throughout.. The Taranaki sailed for Lyttelton and Port Chalmers yesterday afternoon at half-past 5 o'clock. ' The schooners Canterbury and Spec ior. Pelorus Sound, and Richard and Mary for Waitapu, sailed yesterday.
